Creative Arts and Technology students were treated to insights from an up-and-coming filmmaker and game designer on Nov. 14, as artist Theresa Loong presented an informational lecture in Westminster Arts Center’s Van Fossan Theatre as part of Bloomfield’s Visiting Artist Series.
“We are so happy that Theresa was able to come and spend time with our students,” CAT Division Chair Nancy Bacci said. “The Visiting Artists Series brings contemporary artists to Bloomfield to enhance our community’s contemplation of the arts. Our students get so much out of these lectures, and we thank Theresa for coming and sharing her experiences with present and future artists.”
A Consulting Producer for American Movie Channel (AMC), Loong’s recent documentary “Every Day is a Holiday” chronicles her father’s life as a Prisoner of War in Japan during World War II, and how his freedom changed his outlook on the remainder of his life as a husband and father. Her work at AMC featured material for the hit series “Breaking Bad", including interactive games designed to provide user experiences that bring viewers closer to the show.
During her lecture, Loong challenged students to look within their own communities and lives for material, and search for themes and meaning in their environments when creating. Loong also took time to interact with students during a question-and-answer session following the event.
“I really appreciated the opportunity to speak to students and faculty at Bloomfield College as part of the Visiting Artist Series,” Loong said of her visit to the institution. “It is very exciting to see that students are able to focus on such an innovative field of study such as Creative Arts and Technology as part of their undergraduate work. This is an outstanding program, and I am so happy I was able to come and be a part of it and speak to the students. Hopefully, they can utilize some of what I spoke about and continue to create great material.”
