The Bloomfield College Education Honor Society, Kappa Delta Pi, has given students another valuable resource to help them teach the power of reading.

The organization has purchased a “Read Aloud” collection of exemplary literature through the Children’s Literacy Initiative and has donated it to the division, co-advisors Margaret O’Reilly and Kenneth Kunz announced today.

“We are very excited to have this new collection of exemplary children’s literature for our students to explore and use in their teaching experiences,” said associate professor O’Reilly. “Having this collection on-site provides our students with resources that will enrich their learning and teaching.”

With the donation, Bloomfield students will be able to explore literature across the primary and elementary grades that they can then use in their classes and field experiences. The contribution will serve current undergrads working in early childhood and elementary classrooms.

The Children’s Literacy Initiative (CLI) is a non-profit organization that works with teachers to transform instruction so that children become better readers, writers and thinkers. Founded in 1988, the organization serves teachers in levels ranging from pre-kindergarten to third grade and helps to serve as training sites for local educators.

“没有什么比知识更重要,”Kunz, a reading specialist at Bloomfield, said. “This collection will transform our teaching resource center into a place where students can meet, collaborate, and plan meaningful lessons with materials that will engage the young readers in their field experience classrooms. Kappa Delta Pi leaders have now created a print-rich environment for everyone to utilize and enjoy.”
