Placement testing is used to determine the skill levels of entering students in Writing and to help us place students in the correct course to best meet their academic goals. This placement test is very important because it will help determine how you start your college career. You cannot "pass" or "fail" the placement test, but giving this test your utmost effort and attention will help you begin your college career on a positive note.

It is essential that you take the placement test yourself to ensure you are placed into the most appropriate course for your skill level.

The deadline for completing any required placement tests is June 1st. Deposited students should have received an email with their testing information. Please contactadmission@www.paliteks.com如果你有任何questions. You cannot be registered for classes until you have completed the required placement tests.

The Writing Placement Test

The writing placement test is untimed and can be completed over multiple days*. If you would like to complete the writing placement test in one seating, the test should not take longer than 2 hours.

*Please note: students that take the exam onsite at Bloomfield College will be given a 2 hour time frame. If you require accommodations, please contact:Office of Students with Disabilities.

The Writing Placement Test has three parts:

  1. Reading a series of short news articles about a topic.
  2. Writing a 2-3 page argumentative essay based on the readings.
  3. Writing a self-reflective essay in which you think about your reading and writing habits and recommend and explain the course you think you should be in.

You may seek outside help for this essay, but ultimately the ideas and writing must be your own. The point of this placement test is to determine what class will best serve your needs. If the essay you submit does not reflect your actual writing abilities, then you will struggle in your writing class.
